~Chapter 19~

Scarlett's POV

I shot up in bed and gasped for air.Another nightmare,another shortage of sleep.I sighed and reached for the glass on the dresser.I took a small gulp then wiped the sweat off my forehead.

I have gotten significantly better in these past five days.Yes,it has been five days since Lucien and I have kissed.He has been all busy with meetings and business ever since.Two days ago I was able to walk,took some getting used to,but I'm glad I could do it as soon as possible.In a few days I can return to work after going AWOL.

I still had my IV,but I could now eat.The foods I ate had to be soft and not rock hard.

I climbed off the bed and headed to the kitchen.I slowly walked into the elevator and sat down.I heard it ding and stood up.I walked into the kitchen and saw a silhouette of a person.My eyes widened and I grabbed a butcher knife that was on the counter.Lucien wasn't here until next week and the staff were all in their rooms.

I took a few steps closer and the person turned around and put on the light.

"Lucien?"I ask,shocked.What was he doing here?

"Yes Scarlett it's me,"he sighed.His voice sounded cold and guarded.How it sounded when we first met.My eyebrows furrowed and I walked over to him.I opened my arms and hugged his torso.He tensed and patted my back awkwardly.

I took a step back that put enough space between us.

"What's going on with you Lucien?"I ask and foldedmy arms over my chest.He ran his hand down his face.

"Just go to sleep,"he dismissed me and I scoff and walk to the elevator.With his guard back up I don't know how we're going to work.

I felt angry that we are back at square one.Sad that he is now cold towards me and frightened about what the cause of this was.I'm not stupid,we were doing great but now all of a sudden this shit happens.Maybe he was never really serious about me.

The elevator dings and I ran onto Lucien and I's floor.He said I should go to sleep.The one thing I was trying to avoid.I roll my eyes at myself and climb into bed.I laid there with my eyes staring up at the ceiling.I began to count from one to five hundred.When I reached four hundred I finally fell asleep.This time with no nightmares.

"Miss Scarlett.Someone is here to see you,"someone's voice awakened me from my peaceful sleep.I groaned and opened my eyes just a tad bit.It was Ameliana.I couldn't stop feeling guilty everytime I see her.Lucien made Rose write a letter to her mom telling her she was going to travel and won't be back soon.By the looks of it,she believed it.

"Morning Ameliana,"I grumbled out and sit up straight in bed.She smiles at me amused.I probably looked like a chimpanzee attacked me."Who is it?"I questioned.

"It's a woman named Jade?"she scrunched up her face and I laugh a little.It's clearly Jada.But how did she get the address?

I put my feet on the marbled floor and look down when I hear something whimpering.I gasp and pick up Pluto.The day I threatened Lucien to return my dog,he searched for him at the local shelters.Apparently,his men didn't know it was my dog and took Pluto to a shelter.As you can see it took a while finding him.

I cradled the puppy to my chest and walked out of the room to the elevator.The elevator doors opened on the first floor and I saw Jada sitting in the lounge.

"Jada?What are you doing here?"I asked curiously.I didn't tell her where I lived,only that I lived with Lucien.

"Oh don't worry.I just really wanted to come tell you some really juicy things and see how you're doing,"she waved me off and I couldn't  fight the churning in my stomach.

"Okay..."I let it go and took a seat opposite her on the couch."So what have you got to tell me?"I asked while petting Pluto."And how did you get here?"

"Oh my God,Scar!He's perfect.I met him at a bar.We just...clicked.He's so charming and I think I'm actually going to marry that man,"she gushed and deliberately ignored my last question.

"So what's his name?"I urged on and she rolled her eyes with a massive smile.

"Vincent,but I call him Vinny,"My hand froze and so did my entire body.It can't be right?There are all different kinds of Vincents.Still,a voice in the back of my head told me otherwise.
