It had only been two years since Bella had left the household, and things were getting better each day. Peter was working the farm by himself as usual as the kids went out to school together. Benjamin was at daycare until the end of the school day so Peter can pick up all of his kiddos. It was midafternoon, and Zachary was sitting down at the coloring table. He let out a small sigh as he looked down at the drawing. It was a picture of him holding a teddy bear, looking up at the night sky. The teacher walked over and leaned over, smiling. "That's a lovely drawing you have there. What's the bear's name?" They asked as they look at the nine-year-old. Without taking any longer to speak, Zachary responds. "Michael."
The bell rang soon after, and kids rushed out the door to go to lunch. Zachary got up from his chair and pushed it in before giving the drawing to his teacher, "Ms. Adams, can you keep this safe until I have to go home?" She smiled as she carefully took the paper in hand, "Of course, Zachary! Now go on and get something to eat." She fixes her posture and pets his head gently with her other hand. He smiles at the warmth in her voice as she spoke to him. He then walked away out into the hall and went into the lunchroom to meet up with his siblings, Joey and Andy. Conner was usually in the library during lunch since it was more quiet to fit his liking. Joey waves his hand in the air, signaling his older brother to come over to their table. Zach smiles at the sight of his siblings near and down across from them. "What took you so long to get here? You almost missed your chance to get your strawberry milk but, don't worry, I got an extra!" Andy smiled with one of her bottom teeth missing and hands him the carton of milk from her pocket. Zachary smiles and says thanks to her with a slight nod. Joey was busy stuffing his face so he could finish early to be able to play soccer with the boys at recess. "Jc, you're going to choke.." Andy hits his arm softly to get his attention. "N-no, I'm not!" He says with his mouth full. Both of his older siblings shake their heads before they open up their lunch packs from home. Peter's cooking is truly the best in the world.
The day went on like how the wind blew the leaves smoothly through the atmosphere. Everyone was packing up and heading to their stations outside the school for them to go home safely. Zachary was about to walk out the door with Joey and Andy when Ms. Adams stops them. She hands the child his drawing, "You almost forgot this." He hugs her dress for a moment as a thank you. She smiles, seeing how caring he was towards her. "You kids, be careful on your way home, and I'll see you guys tomorrow!" She walks them out of the building, waving goodbye as they run over to their father. Peter had Benjamin in a baby wrap carrier so that his son was resting his head against the male's chest. "Vamos a la casa niños."
Once they got home, Peter takes the baby into his room to take his nap. The rest of his kids went to their rooms to complete their homework before dinner. Knowing how much their father worked, the children had learned to take responsibility for themselves. After everyone had done their tasks around the house and school, they meet up at the dining table as Peter was cooking in the kitchen. "So how was everyone's' day?" "Good!" "Decent." "Fun!" Zach and Conner stayed silent as they sat in their seats. After dinner, everyone went off to do as they please except for Zachary. He went into his room he shared with his other brothers and sat on his bed. He looked at the drawing beside him and smiled. His breath was steady, yet it felt like something was missing that made him feel uneasy. He closed his eyes as he held his hands close to his heart. The sun had already set, and Peter was counting his kids present when he heard a small voice come out from one of the rooms. The older male leans against the door frame as he listened to his son talking, "Please give me someone that will be my best friend forever through the good and the bad.." He wished as he opened his eyes, and a shooting star passed his window. His eyes lit up with a hope that it would come true someday. Peter smiled as he looked at his son; seeing that spark in his eye made his heart flutter with joy. Before he would get caught, he moves away from the door and leaves his son looking up at the stars, waiting for his teddy bear to arrive into his life.
