This one is a little bit different, less obvious. Probably not everyone's cup of tea....
--------------------------------------------------------------The sun glared down in my eyes, as if the whole world was purposely spiteful. Standing, I shook my hair, the leaves, dirt and twigs falling away. Pain shot through my leg, unsteadly I lifted up the wreck of my bike.
The back tire popped. It hung loose from the wheel. The frame dented but in still useable condition, although I couldn't use it now. Looking at the cracked face of my watch I knew I was fucked. I only had 20 minutes till the bell rang. I was 40 minutes away.
Just my luck.
Gruelling was the walk, my bike awkward and bulky. I wanted so badly to chuck it, but I didn't have any other choice but to drag it along.
Then to my surprise, a dark green coloured car was heading in my direction. I would have ignored it except for the fact it slowed to matching pace beside me. The window rolled down. A woman was driving. Carmel coloured hair, and painted lips. She couldn't have been much older then me.
"Excuse me miss, but I couldn't help noticing your bike is well... Are you ok?" Her accent intrigued me, but it was unrecognizable. Her tone kind and sincere, immediately filling me with a soothing feeling. Like the feeling of a hot bubble bath, or a cozy blanket fresh form the dryer. I stopped walking, and sighed.
"Not exactly, I'm going to be late for school, and I'm totally screwed if I get another slip." It wasn't the first time I was late, and my aunt would throw a tantrum when I came home. Her fits resulted in anger I no longered wanted to deal with.
"Oh well I could give you a ride to your school." I knew the anxiety should have bubbled up, but her smile muted any logical thought.
''Its 20 minutes away." I replied dumbly, unable to say much else.
"I know where it is, it's the only school in this direction. It's no trouble, plus I have a bike rack." It's true, I hadn't really looked at the car, but it was forest green vintage looking convertible with a little bike hitch at the trunk. The cream vinyl seats looked inviting, like her.
"That'd be a really big help." It took no persuasive speech to enrapture me. She was an alluring spider. The warning bells a distant sound from far far away. She nodded, and killed the engine. The purring stopped and the door opened.
She wore a patterned blouse, and mid-length skirt. She looked like a doll, porcelain and graceful.
Effortlessly she slung my bike onto the rack. She opened the passenger side and I hesitated. What the hell was I doing? She smiled at me again.
"Come on, tempus fugit"
That was enough to convince me.
I dusted myself off one more time and sat down. The seat sunk under my weight, it was soft, cold."I'm Jeanne." I said as she started the car again, and we began down the road.
"Pretty" she mused.
"Pshh nah, it's old fashioned" I scoffed, immediately feeling immature.
"Well I happen to like old fashioned things. They're simple, more direct, honest." She acted unfazed by my self disdain. "Eve."
Her name was Eve. Short, simple, and sweet. Like her car. Like her.
"It suits you" I blurted. She chuckled, amused.
"Does it?"
"Yes" I continued, "It's pretty"
She laughed at me again.
"You think I'm pretty?"
"Yes" I replied, she stayed silent and I cursed silently.
Good job Jeanne you are on a real roll today,
"Sorry, that kind of came out." I said nervously, the edge in my voice unmistakable. I glanced over at her and she blushed.
"No, it's sweet, you're a sweet kid."
Kid. That's what she saw me as. Just a kid.
"I'm eighteen" defiantly I quipped back.
"Yes, well you're are younger then me."
"Oh come on, Eve you're like what twenty?" Her name rolled effortlessly off my tongue, like I had known it all along.
"Twenty-four" she replied distantly.
"Six years doesn't make me a kid."
"Why, you thinking of flirting with me?"
"I thought I was" I mumbled, the blush creeping across my face. My neck felt hot. She let out another laugh, still amused. The school building appearing as we turned a corner.
"You're strange," she mused. "You accept a ride from a stranger, then you flirt with her while she drives you to school."
"What can I say, I'm a character"
She pulled into the carpark, distancing herself from the other cars. She sat still, I watched her chest rise and fall.
"You don't know me." She said quietly
"I'd like to."
"I don't know if that's a good idea love"
"Please?"
She sighed, a small smile across her face. Then she grabbed a pen and paper, scribbled something, folded it, and placed it in my hand.
"I thought you were going to be late"
"Yeah..." I didn't dare open my palm, I slipped out of the car and grabbed my bike.
She honked her horn at me.
"Thank you Eve, for the ride." I said as I turned back to face her. She smiled her winning smile.
"Of course, be safe." And with that she pulled out and left me standing alone, with my battered bike. I stayed for what felt minutes, the bell had rang long ago.
I opened my palm, unfolding the slip of paper.
Incase your bike breaks again, or you just miss me

Eve
Well it's just my luck
I'm a little bit hesitant with this one, I know it's not exactly the standard fare, but I do like it. Also half inspired by the song. Honestly it's so gay, I could ramble on about it for ever haha.
