Bleak.

Abandoned.

Home.

You looked up at the seemingly abandoned hotel from your place in the shadows across the street perched in an empty doorway. From the outside it looked like straight garbage. The bricks rough and tarnished, paint pealing and flaking onto the ground. the doors once wide and inviting now stood closed and boarded over. Silent. Forgotten. This once beautiful thriving place that once offered shelter and a place for countless memories now an empty and haunting reminder of a terrible time in this city. Everyone had just packed up and left, it was just a building new ones could be made with less horrible thing tied to it. They closed the doors leaving it to wither and decay. Empty, cold and alone. It was perfect. You steadied your nerves as you stood still watching, waiting, listening for any sign that you'd been followed. Hearing nothing you walked lightly your steps not even having an echo as you moved along the wall heading for the back entrance your fingers trailed along behind you feeling the roughness of the once new and cared for bricks.

The coarse feel of them along your palm kept you steady, grounded your thoughts as you came to the door. Taking this step...walking thru here...it would change everything. It would mean he won, that he was right. You weren't cut out for being anything more then some stupid sappy love sick girl stuck at home waiting on him to give you a purpose. You reached up touching the scar running across your face. Now wasn't the time for rethinking and doubt, you were done sitting around watching others get hurt. Seeing your friends wither and die, or living long enough that they wished they had the guilt they carried eating them alive. You refused to submit to a life like that. No... no more thinking and waiting and hoping. No more being that girl. You pulled the door open staring into the darkness. You had burned your last hope to ash, it was time for new beginnings. A new you. Colder, Darker, Bolder. Stepping thru this door meant choosing her, choosing you, choosing to focus on that hate and anger and to become what it felt. You walked thru feeling the change flow thru you almost like a switch had flipped. You were where you wanted to be.

The room was dark and dank. The smell of alcohol and smoke filled your senses as you settled in on the faces turning towards you. You saw your coldness your thirst from a better life reflected in their eyes as you held their gazes. "Well Well you must be our new recruit... Id say welcome but i don't actually care" You gave a small nod of acknowledgement towards the man sitting at the bar. His head was bent over his drink as he scratched at his neck, one hand never leaving his glass. He never turned towards you, his body still as he spoke. "You came on high recommendation hopefully you wont be a colossal disappointment. Welcome to the League. Toga?" the perky blonde in the corner took a step forward her eyes gleaming with excitement as he addressed her "Show this one to a room. We have work to do" His smile was wicked and wide as he finished his words. Toga bounced over to you a nice little spin finishing her flourish of a walk.

"Come on Newbie You'll be near me! It'll be so nice having another girl around! We can be best friends and hang out and do-" you tuned out following her as she walked. Nodding along with any question she asked as you took in your surroundings. The inside of the hotel was shockingly in a better condition then the outside, the walls and carpet still in great condition. Your eyes shifted to Toga keeping pace as she spoke. What a curious one she was, beaming and smiling like you were two friends at the mall as you walked along the corridor. You had a feeling she was right, you two would be good friends, she just seemed to pull you in and never stop. It was infectious at best. You came to a halt in front of a door. It was a dark wood painted black the color fresh and bold. "This one is yours I'm right down the hall" she pointed three doors down " its open anytime. go get settled and meet back down at the bar in a few hours, tonight we go out on recon so it'll be easy. M'kay bye!" She turned and left to her room as you entered yours. It was what you would expect form a long abandoned hotel room, although it looked like the bed and chairs had been newly added.

This would be good. Different. A home and family you'd been so denied before. And fuck if you weren't ready. You flopped on the bed, time to catch some rest before going out tonight. You'd had to be in top shape if it meant showing them what you were made of. You felt calm as you drifted off, for the first time in years peace hit you as you slept.
