"Brook!" I'm scrambling to get my stuff together. "I'm coming. Jeez." I pull on my bathrobe thinking its going to be Alex at the door. When I pull it open and see the curly black hair, I know I've made a mistake. His jaw goes slack and I feel his blue eyes scan me from the messy bun planted on top of my head to my half painted toenails. "Zack, hi." I say in an effort to recapture his attention. It isn't like he's never saw me like this before. "H-hi. Sorry to just drop in. Your obviously busy. I'll just go." He hangs his head while he finished the last word.
"Wait!" What am I doing? He has a girlfriend. But why would he be here if he didn't miss me? "Come in. I'll make some coffee, get dressed, and we can talk." I haven't seen him in 3 years except for the brief exchange of glances in our apartment building hallways. Got to love break ups.
As I pull on my leggings and baggy sweater I let my auburn hair fall around my face in light waves. I can't think of a reason that he would be here. He's been with the same girl since we broke up. I check myself out in the mirror. I know how gorgeous my green eyes look being framed by my long dark lashes and auburn hair.
I might be the slightest bit cocky when I strut into the kitchen/dining room to make coffee. "You still take two cream three sugar?" I ask. "Uh ya. How do you remember that?" He looks puzzeled. I wasn't about to tell him how much I'd been missing him or how I'd never forget anything about him. Instead I just shrug my shoulders. "You still remember what I take. Its only fair. That reminds me, thanks for all the coffees at my door step." A grin creeps its way onto my face when he chuckles. God I love that sound.
As I sit down across from him at my table, I search his face for something mocking, even sympathetic. But all I find is happiness and lust. What the hell was happening here? "So, why are you here?" I ask, an accusing tone taking over my voice. "I just missed you. We haven't talked in so long. I needed to see you." He gives me that look and I can't help but smile. "Really? What about Brianna?" A sad look falls into his eyes. "We ended it. She knew I didn't love her and I never would. I wouldn't be surprised if she hires someone to kick my ass" he says with a giggle. Brianna is this rich snobby girl who fell in love with Zack when he took a trip to Paris. She came back with him and they moved in together into my apartment building. Yay.
We talked until 1am rolled around. "Jesus Zack its 1am, don't you need to get home?" I asked, hoping he would ask to stay. "No one there who needs me, but I guess I better get out of your hair." He gives me a one of those adorable side smirks and stands up. We'd gone through 3 pots of coffee and almost everything from the last 3 years of our life. He walked over to me and I stood up, the top of my head coming to just under his shoulder. He kissed my forehead and walked out of my door and I knew he was headed up 3 flights of stairs and over 6 apartments.
