my sunshine - son dongmyeong

[a/n]: i got this idea a few minutes after i woke up and was almost bawling my eyes out by the time i finished planning this in my head. grab tissues and enjoy. heads up: this is angst. this is just the most heart breaking most painful angst ever. <3

all dongmyeong remembers is cramming into the van with the rest of the members as he begged the driver to go as fast as possible as he tried to get to the hospital as fast as he could.

you were diagnosed with an unidentifiable illness that would eventually kill you, but he didn't believe it until the day came that you only had minutes left until your death and ultimately, that day was today.

he flew out of the van and straight to the room you'd been staying in for the past few months, seeing the doctors surround you. he not-so-patiently waited for the okay to come into the room and rushed right by your side. his heart broke seeing how weak and pale you looked, how broken and fragile you were.

"y/n.."

"myeong... you came.." you weakly smiled at him, your voice croaking as it took everything in you to speak to him.

"of course i came, my love. i'll always be by your side" he grabbed your hand tightly.

"you look sweaty" you smiled, bringing your free hand to cup his cheek. he chuckled a bit, "i just came from practice".

it was silent as you two enjoyed a few moments together, before you inhaled deeply. the breath was shaky and full of death, and dongmyeong instantly noticed that.

"y/n... y/n please don't.. you're strong i know you can fight this... this isn't the first time we've had a scare like this and-"

"m-myeong... this is it for me.." your voice was weaker.

"y/n please! i love you too much.. i love you so much please don't go" he held onto your hand tighter, his other hand coming to touch yours that was resting on his cheek. you looked behind him and out the door window to see that dongju had also pulled up, and you knew it was to comfort his brother when you were gone. you gave them a small, weak smile before turning back to dongmyeong.

"dongmyeong, can i sing you a song?" you whispered, now holding his face with both your hands. he nodded, tears threatening to fall from his eyes.

"dongmyeong.. you are my sunshine...

my only sunshine...

you make me happy, when skies are gray...

you'll never know dear, how much i love you...

please don't take my sunshine away..."

each line came out slowly and weaker than the one before it, and you smiled softly at dongmyeong as he teared up, one or two rolling down his cheeks.

"dongmyeong, i love you. i always will. remember that. i love you"

you hands gently fell limp from his cheeks, now resting in his palms as the heart monitor beeped and the line went flat.

he panicked and look at the monitor and back at you a few times before it hit him - you were gone.

"y/n... y/n no! NO YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO ME!" his voice broke as tears started uncontrollably streaming down his face as he shook you a bit before leaning straight down to hug your body.

"come back... please come back... i love you so much please come back" he sobbed into your shoulder, his cries and sobs of pure pain and brokenness could be heard from outside the room, him calling out your name and asking for you to come back, saying how much he loves you.

"i love you so much... please come back..." he felt a pang in his heart as he remembered you just minutes ago, calling him your sunshine, as if it were engraved in his heart now, the memory engraved in his brain.

he was your sunshine the 4 years he was in your life. he was your sunshine, and that's all that matters.
