Tyler’s POV:

“Hey Tyler, I got you a surprise. So when you get home, be ready for the best birthday gift ever!” I listen to the voicemail again that Troye left me. Should I be worried? I’m going to guess no and hope he didn’t get me nothing too extravagant. Unfortunately, I still have an interview to do with two kids from Pomona College. They are making a documentary about the LGBT community and how it is helping teenagers.

“Hello, I’m Tyler,” I introduce myself to them and shake their hands.

“I’m Sabrina and this is Claire,” the brunette says while the other sets up the camera.

“Okay, so we are just going to ask you some questions. If they are too personal just tell us, it is no problem at all if you can’t or don’t want to answer it,” Claire says with a warm smile.

“I’ll be asking questions while Claire will be filming. If you feel uncomfortable let us know. Ready to get started?” She asks.

“I think so,” I say. Usually I’m not nervous, but I am now cause the community picked me and a couple of others to speak. What if I did bad?

“Okay, so first thing we want you to do is to tell us a little bit about you,” Sabrina tells me.

“So my name is Tyler Oakley. I run a youtube channel with over five million subscribers and have a podcast that I host with one of my best friends, Korey. I am twenty-five years old and currently in a serious relationship with a man. I have been apart of the LGBT community for a while and have enjoyed being an active spokesperson these past couple of years.”

“How did you feel when you came out to your parents?” Sabrina asks.

“Um, so it was just my mom at first that I came out to. I was scared to death, because I thought she would hate me. Due to that fear, I stayed in the closet for a couple years. When I finally told her she was like, “okay,” but we were standing in line about to check out. I was just like, “mom I’m gay” and she was like, “that is perfectly okay.” I was shocked to know she supported me, but somewhere out there on some security film is me coming out to my mom.” I laugh with the two girls.

“Could you tell us about your partner and some of the struggles you two go through?”

“I’m in a relationship with Troye Sivan, he is a youtuber, too. He is perfect and we are soon going back to Australia to see his parents. The hardest part about our relationship is the negative people. We try to not let it get to us, but some of the things they say are so mean that they hurt.”

The interview took about an hour and went smoothly, I thought. Sabrina and Claire both said I did great. I text Troye before driving home in rush hour. It takes me about forty minutes before I arrive at our loft. After parking the car, I walk into the lobby and take the stairs up four flights. I pull my key out and open the door. As soon as I shut the door I hear a yelp.

“Troye?” I hear running and then see a gray Great Dane puppy come running around the corner of the bar.

“Surprise!” I hear Troye yell and jump up from behind the counter.

“You got me a puppy?” I ask him while holding the little dog.

“Yes, I remember you talking about how bad you wanted one, but your old apartment didn’t allow them. I got special permission from the owner to get one, but we can only get one.” Troye explains.

“I love her! She is adorable, thanks Troye boy.” I say with a large smile on my face.

“So what are you going to name her?” He asks me.

“Hm, what about Mei?” I ask him.

        “As in the month?”

“No as in the chinese word to mean beautiful.” I explain.

“Oh, I love it!” He says and then hands me a purple collar for Mei to wear. I smile and then put it on her.

“Best birthday gift ever.” I give him a quick kiss and then put Mei back on the ground.

“So, how did the interview go?” He asks while leading me into the living room.

“I guess okay, but I wish I had just one yesterday.”

        “Why?” He asks.

“Cause yesterday was another day that we took for granted and wasted laying in bed.” I tell him.

“No day is a waste when I’m with you Tilly.”
