Chapter 2:

"I have to go talk to one of the others," Corey says, "Alistair, will you look after these two for me?"

"We don't need babysitting," Sebastian argues.

"Perhaps not," Alistair says, "but it would be unfortunate if you were to be mistaken for intruders walking around the base."

"When you say unfortunate," I say concerned.

"It may result in violence," Alistair clarifies.

"Seb, maybe we should do as they say," I suggest.

"Fine," Seb says, he huffs in frustration.

"So, that's a yes?" Corey asks.

"Yes, Corey, I will watch your brother and his friend for you," Alistair says.

"Great," Corey says turning to leave, "Oh, and Alistair, no funny business."

"I would never involve your brother with my other practices," Alistair says.

"I can't believe I'm saying this, but don't try anything with the kid either," Corey says.

"He means me, doesn't he?" I ask Sebastian.

"Yes," Sebastian says, glaring at his brother, "he does."

"B-but, I'm twenty years old," I complain.

Corey doesn't bother apologising; he just heads out.

"Alistair, what did Corey mean when he said no funny business?" I ask.

"It's probably best you don't know," Alistair says, smirking.

I decide to be cautious around Alistair from now on. Sebastian gives him a weird look, before sighing with exhaustion and lying down on the bench he has been sitting on.

"Ow," he whines.

"I'm going to get Sebastian some ice from the freezer, can I trust the two of you to stay put?" Alistair asks.

"Mmhmm," I nod my head.

Alistair leaves, I notice him lock the door behind him.

"Are you okay, Seb?" I ask.

"Sure," Sebastian says, "but I'm going to take a minute to cry if that's okay with you."

"Whatever you need to do," I tell him.

He holds his hand out in a fist, I fist bump him lightly. He throws an arm over his face and silent tears run down his face.

"Fuck," Sebastian curses.

"You alright?" I ask him.

"This is going to sound pathetic but, it hurts to cry," he admits.

"Your ribs are bruised dude," I remind him.

"Well, now my ego is bruised too," he complains.

"I still think you're badass," I tell him.

"That's why we're best friends," he says.

Sebastian has always been a badass to me. When we were kids, he was always rushing to my defence. I trust Sebastian wholeheartedly. I'm pulled out of my thoughts by the sound of someone unlocking the door. It's Alistair, he's back with the ice. Sebastian wipes his face quickly and puts on a tough expression.

"Hello," Alistair greets us.

Alistair wraps the ice in a thin cloth before handing it to Sebastian. Sebastian takes the ice and carefully holds it against the bruising. He grits his teeth and inhales deeply.
