I was 13 when the disease broke out. Was it actually a disease? Or were they just zombies? Stupid lifeless zombies who just want to eat bra-a-a-ins. There were so many questions at the time, no one knew what was going on, even scientists couldn't make sense of it. When it happened family in Australia came her hoping that there would be less of a danger. Emma chose to stay in Melbourne, Josh came here. When the police force broke down things went really bad, everyone was stealing from shops, 'every man for himself'. No one new where the disease came from. It was just an ordinary day and soon enough the whole world was in anarchy. The disease arrived in New Zealand because of immigration and the idea of a 'safe haven' little did we know they were only furthermore spreading the disease.

He had seen him, behind the tree, however he wasn't sure if it was anything. Get something to eat Reuben, your mind is messing with you. Reuben hadn't eaten in days. They'd been running short on food supplies when the Avondale kids had raided the garden and other food storage. Everything had remained calm until them. He had tried to stop them, he hid with Tamir, Josh, Alon and Nell to protect them. No one was hurt due to the good hiding place the top of the wardrobe in Reuben's old room.

Reuben ran back inside the house and closed the door behind him; which he then locked. "Josh, there's something out there."
"What was it?" Josh replied in his 10 year old voice.
"I'm not sure, I think it's a 'grown-up'. I'm going to go and kill it." Reuben then opened the door to come face to face with the creature; it was a cat. "Hahaha. It's only a cat!", Reuben exclaimed. The cat was skinny and missing fur. Reuben got down on his knees. "Here kitty, kitty" the cat looked at him and proceeded into the house, ignoring him.

Days had gone by and the kids were hungrier than ever, Alon was crying all the time so Nell, Reuben's sister had tried entertaining him by playing regular household games like hide and seek. That was when he disappeared. They never knew what actually happened to Alon; it all happened so fast. They were only left to discover the gate trampled down. Adults; that's what they called them sometimes 'grownups' or just zombies, and that's what they were, Reuben wondered what the other people across the world called them. They were hungry savage beasts. It was from that point on that they had decided it was no longer safe to live in the ruined house of the Fords in Waterview.
