I wake up the next morning with an awful headache even though I only drank one beer last night.

I change into sweatpants and a crewneck. I walk down the stairs to take my dog, Luna, on a walk. I grab my phone, a black puffy jacket, a grey neff beanie and Luna's leash. I check my phone, there's five voicemails from Luke and no texts from Calum.

That's when I realize I never even gave Calum my number. I sigh, he seemed really nice.

I check the voicemails from Luke. The first two are just him slurring "I love you" into the phone. The third and fourth are long speeches about how he loves me. But the fifth one is more serious.

"Hey Hallie, it's me again. I'm still kinda drunk but I wanted you to know that I'm going to do everything I can to get you to like me. I'm going to change"

I sigh again and walk Luna to the mailbox and open it, there's no mail, but there's a crumpled piece of notebook paper stuffed in it. I open it and read

"Hey Hallie it's Calum I didn't get your number but mine is 1-612-382-2849 so text me as soon as you get this so we can hang :)

I smile as I read it. I pull out my phone while I walk Luna down the street, putting Cal's number into my phone.

I text him

"Hey Cal, it's Hallie"

He texts back almost immediately

"Hey Hallie!"

I smile at his eagerness and text him again as I walk Luna down the street.

Just then, I stumble into a root and trip, my life flashes before my eyes as the concrete pavement comes closer. Just then, someone catches me.

I look up to see Luke, wearing a backwards baseball cap and sunglasses.

"Oh Luke.."

"You're welcome" He smirks, not unkindly

"Yeah, thanks" I reply

"No problem" He grins and walks past me.

Weird

Luke didn't try to make a move on me which is very rare.

Just then he spun around to face me, saying

"By the way, I'm going to stop bothering you now. I promise"

"Ok?" I reply "How come?"

"Because you hate me" He smirked

"I don't hate you, Hemmings" I sigh, and he grins.

"That's a start" He laughs and starts to walk away.

What's that supposed to mean
