Taking a page from my last rewrite, I would like to keep the team dynamics from sonic heroes, but the gameplay will be closer to the sonic adventure games. Everybody Is split into teams of three and those teams are:
Team sonic: sonic, tails and knuckles
Team dark: shadow, rouge and omega.
Team rose Amy, cream and newcomer shade the echidna
Team chaotix: vector, espio and charmy
Team paradox: silver, blaze and marine the racoon
Team eggman: eggman, metal sonic and newcomer Alizela the echidna.
I would also like to explain the gameplay. Being honest, I may have taken inspiration form Lightning2153 sonic adventure 3 pitch then deciding on the gameplay style. The styles are:
Speed: sonic, shadow, metal sonic and blaze
Flight: tails, cream and charmy, Alizela.
Treasure hunting: knuckles, rouge, shade and (as a post-game bonus) Tikal with her iron knuckles from SA2
Combat: vector, omega, marine and eggman.
Stealth: espio, Amy, silver and (as a post-game reward) froggy. I mean emerl from sonic battle after copying espio's abilities
I should explain so speed will play like sonic adventure 1 and 2, flight will play like tails in sonic adventure, treasure hunting will act as a mix of both sonic adventures, combat will play like a warriors game. If you want a more in-depth explanation, please go and watch the video by lightning2153 as he goes into more detail as to what I want for the 4 gameplay style. However, for stealth I want to explain further. Seeing that I have espio, silver and Amy they will have to sneak though stages with enemies that are smart with advance AI. This leads me into my next explanation which is character specific abilities.
For the speed characters, sonic has the ability to curl into a ball while running to damage enemies (or build up speed) without having to jump or stop to spin dash. Shadow will have chaos blast and chaos spear from the 06 rewrite. Blaze will have the boost, but it depletes fast and it requires a lot of rings to keep going. This will allow for the boost to be depleted for slower, platforming sections. These three additions change the stages by making it like sonic CD. There's a clear way to the goal, but there is plenty to explore if you want to. For the fly character, tails will have the spin attack for the air and land. Cream has cheese as an attack and g-merl as an extra hit. Charmy would have the ability to pollinate flowers to create platforms to make it up area's easer. This makes tails the best for air based combat, cream would be the easy mode, and charmy would be the best for exploring the large stages. For the treasure hunting stages, knuckles would have the strongest punches and can open smaller areas for capsules and the such for a better point bonus for an easer S rank, rouge can track all three pieces of the items at once, and shade is the fastest climber and can glide the furthest. not much for shade but I think that she could be a favourite for speed runners .
As for the combat, omega would be great for long ranged combat-, vector would the best for close quarters combat and for boss fights and marine would be good for both thanks to her boomerangs that can also be used as a melee attack . Finally, the stealth characters, espio would be able to turn invisible for a short while and being able to do a close stealth take down. Silver would have a short levitation as well as being able to take enemies out in larger groups with his psychokinesis and Amy is who you would play as if you want a challenge as she can't do stealth takedowns, however she can do the triangle jump or wall jump. If you leave the stick alone while on a wall you'll go up, if you hold the stick in any other direction you will triangle jump in that direction. However, any stages in the story where you can only play as Amy will be adjusted accordingly until you go back with the stage select.
Speaking of that stage select. When you're not playing stages, you can explore tails' workshop as a small hub world. it's a 3d options menu as you can walk around and click on things. The radio would take you to the music test, the map would take you to the stage select where you can select music for the stages, the elevator would take you to the basement where you can find a Sega genesis with sonic 1 but you can unlock, sonic 2, 3k, knuckles in sonic 2, CD and knuckles chaotix with every emblem collected from the main stages or the extra mission.. This would be a neat way to play the games especially when a definitive edition doesn't exist for most of the game stated. Finally, the small monitor will let you re-watch the cutscene. You can also talk to the other characters in the workshop, but you won't get much out of them other than friendly discussion or some backstory for the characters with little clips. For example, if you talk to shadow, he might state how the current situation reminds him of what happened on the arc before he got amnesia or tails could tell you about the state of the plane and the such. Now on to the story.
