Empty Sleep

You and Luck continued to star gaze for a bit after your exchange. You enjoyed the scenery, Luck however was started to nod off beside you, his head starting to slowly bob, eyes fluttering.
Taking notice of this you glanced at the blonde with a smile, giving him a gentle nudge.
"It's late, time for bed Voltia" you whispered, standing to your feet.
Luck let out a wide yawn, rubbing his tired eyes and standing as well.
"Yeah, I'm beat."
With that, the two of you headed inside, making your ways down the winding halls of your home.
After a few minutes you made it into the men's corridor where Luck's room was located.
Coming to a stop outside the room, you stifled a yawn yourself.
"Well.. goodnight" you murmured, facing the boy.
There was a momentary silence in which Luck blinked in confusion before coming to the realization.
The two of you no longer had a reason to bunk together now that the mission was over. You both had your own designated rooms.
A flicker of disappointed passed through the lightning mages eye's, though it was too fast for you to catch what that slight flicker was.
"Oh, right.." he started, looking at his bedroom door.
"Goodnight y/n."
With that and delivering you a smile, he entered the room, clicking it shut behind him.
A small knot wiggled it's way into your stomach as you looked at the closed door before you shoved it down and walked to the direction of your own room.

It was now about half an hour later. You had taken the liberty of washing up and were now comfortably changed into the night gown Luck had previously bought you. There was a small candle flickering at your bedside, the room curtains drawn open to let in the moonlight provided from the outdoors.
You were laying comfortably in your bed, the bed that had been vacant for the entirety of your mission and recovery. Despite laying comfortably in it now, wrapped up in your warm sheets and head resting on your favorite pillow, you couldn't help but feel a bit..empty.
"What's wrong with me?"
You turned onto your side, wanting to just sleep. However your thoughts were in a daze with what had happened that night. The way that Luck told you about how he felt, his flustered look and thundering heartbeat.
"This is how you make me feel."
Your heartbeat picked up rapidly at the memory, a nervous flustered smile overtaking your lips.
"Y-You make me feel the same way Luck."
Your face instantly heat up, making you bury your embarrassment beneath the covers.
"Stupid y/n stupid y/n stupid y/n" you grumbled.
"Did I say the right thing?" You thought hesitantly.
You knew Luck obviously wasn't accustomed to such feelings and neither were you. However the two of you were very different, because although you could eventually recognize and identify what these feelings were, you knew Luck would have a harder time. The boy had most of his life driven by fighting and winning, he wasn't much good at social interactions or deep feelings. In addition to that he had no knowledge of what the feelings he was harboring was, he knew little to none of romance and was having an extremely difficult time.
Despite all this, the lightning mage knew he had only spoken the truth to you thus far. You made him happy, you made his heart beat fast and he couldn't help but want to look after and protect you with all his might.
This he knew.
And this is what he was thinking of, laying in his bed now, so close yet so far from you.
"Ugh" the lightning mage grumbled, tossing and turning in his bed.
Little did he know that you were facing similar issues in those same moments.
"I wonder if y/n is asleep.."
He sighed to himself at the thought. Although he was nodding off before, sleep was now far out of reach.
"This doesn't feel right, bed feels so empty now."
The blonde traced his finger into bedsheets, mulling over his thoughts.
"I miss y/n." He grumbled.
"Mm..no that's stupid, I just saw y/n a little while ago. So why do I miss her?"
Back in your room, you were thinking eerily similar thoughts, your mind filling with the lightning mage, your bed feeling empty, your fingers yearning for the confinement of his blonde hair.
"I miss Luck" you whined to yourself, bringing an extra pillow into your arms, holding it close.
"But he's probably asleep by now..I should leave him, he was tired."
You settled uncomfortably on this stance, shutting your eyes and waiting for empty sleep to take you.
Back in his bed, Luck had bunched up his sheets, giving it a yearning embrace.
"Goodnight Y/n.." he sighed into the empty room, shutting his eyes, sleep not yet overtaking him.
"Goodnight Luck" you whispered aloud, holding the pillow closer.
