Balamb was a peaceful place. After the incident of the time sorceress Ultimecia was settled, it was then that people saw the profit in young witches and wizards, while more saw how dangerous they were. And it was with that that everyone decided to hunt down sorceresses and sorcerers, either using them as test subjects, or just outright killing them. But, all this hate wasn't caused by just one witch, of course not. Many people were already wary of people with magic, and Ultimecia only sent those people over the edge. Then there was the matter of people who helped sorceresses and sorcerers. Those people were treated almost the same as the ones they helped, being brutally tortured and sometimes killed. The only difference was there were no experiments. And they were tortured and killed by the people of their town.

Ultimecia was not alone, however. There were people who helped her in her conquest to compress time and space. She was cunning, using her wits to get people to do anything and everything she wanted. She caused war. She took over other sorceresses. She even tricked normal people into fighting alongside her and devote themselves to her. Many of these people were executed for helping her. There were very few who claimed to be under 'mind control', claiming that as a highly powerful sorceress she could do such things. Though even fewer made that claim and lived after stating it. Then, there were some who believed what they did was wrong and deserved whatever punishment awaited them. Then, there was Seifer Almasy.

Seifer Almasy had always dreamed of being a Sorceress's Knight ever since seeing a movie when he was young. Ultimecia gave him this chance, twisting his dream until he was completely under her control, even getting two others to join him simply because of their loyalty to him. When the time came that Ultimecia was defeated and punishment was intended for those who followed her, Seifer didn't mind whatever would come. He didn't say anything when trialed. He stood there and listened to their words. His fate, they decided, was to become a knight. They knew he was a troublesome boy, and there were many people that made claims to being mind-controlled by Ultimecia. Some even knew about his dream, and his friends protested for him as well. They decided that the only punishment fitting for someone who wants to be a knight for sorceresses, is to be a knight for killing sorceresses. After all, he was very skilled with a Gunblade. Seifer knew that his dream would be over. He knew that there would be no getting it back. And right now, he didn't care.

Sleeping one night, he heard something from downstairs and groaned. Looking at his clock, he saw that it was 2 in the morning. Perfect. He had training in a few hours and now he had to go see who the hell it was that decided to wake him up. Walking downstairs, he grabbed his Gunblade, ready to face whoever it was that decided to fuck with his sleep. Being quiet, he peered into the kitchen, his eyes widening at the scene in front of him. There was a girl, leaning on the counter, holding a cup in her right hand. That wasn't what made him shocked. It was the small little fire that came from her finger, her eyes looking worried that something would happen. She hadn't noticed him yet, her concentration on that tiny little flame heating the cup she held with her other hand. This wasn't happening. There wasn't a sorceress in his kitchen. She wasn't making herself something hot with that pathetic little flame on her finger. She looked in the cup, the flame disappearing, and smiled before taking a sip as her smile grew a bit more. She looked up and finally noticed him, her eyes wide. He stared, then glared. He was a knight now. He had to kill her kind now. She didn't notice the Gunblade yet, as she continued to stare at him.

“...I...I'm sorry...!” She started, her voice quiet as he continued to give her a glare. She was not giving him that. He couldn't be fooled by a sorceress, not again.

“You see, I-I'm from out of town...I don't really have any place to stay, and I, um...nothing's going to help the fact that I broke in, is it?” She questioned, setting down the drink on the countertop behind her. She smiled.
