Prologue

Cas's family was messed up.

Sure, it was messed up in the normal way, but it also had another layer of weird underneath.

Cas's family were hunters, and not animals- mostly. They hunted demons, vampires, werewolves, you name it. He and his four siblings had practically raised themselves, and this was the life that they chose, that they were born into. It was a bit insane, hell, when your life consisted of nightmares and demons and blood and gore, how could it not be?

But Cas wouldn't trade it for the world. He had his siblings, he had his impala, and he had his girlfriend, Lisa. They'd been dating since he was twenty-one, quite an accomplishment for someone who was never in the same place for more than a month.

They'd met on a hunt- their parents had been partners at times, friends even- and they'd just clicked. He couldn't imagine himself with anyone else.

His oldest brother, Lucifer, who would- probably literally- kill you if you didn't call him Luci, thought it was irrational. Said it was a way for the demons to hurt him. Michael didn't really care either way. Anna and Gabe, however, couldn't support him more. Anna was single, but a hopeless romantic. She was always trying to set Luci up with some of her friends. And there were hundreds of them, the social butterfly she was. Gabe, however, was not single, which was surprising. At first glance, Gabe was someone whom you'd assume was a player, a guy who needed someone every once in a while to satisfy his sweet tooth, you could say.

But that was not the case.

Gabe had been dating Jessica since before Cas could even remember. And Cas could tell that wasn't changing anytime soon. If Anna was a hopeless romantic, then you should stay away from Gabe with all costs. He never, never, showed up to a date, or just to hang out with Jess without at least one box of candy for her. She probably had so many boxes right now that she could sell them and buy a large city, or her own personal island. Cas thought it was adorable, but Luci said it was annoying. He may have been the oldest, but he was certainly the buzz kill of the four.

He thought he had his life figured out. Live in the now, not the future. Focus on hunting, on family, on Lisa.

And then came the angels.
