It roils like an angry spirit. Boundless, capricious, hissing in your ear like a bewitching serpent. Beckoning you to play its fateful game. It wants you to try to dance upon it, but that's deceit. Once you break the surface/like you inevitably will/ it will drag you under, play with your limbs and twist you about until your lungs are burning for air and your head is throbbing. It will let you up for a shallow breath only so murderous clouds of grey and black can have their share, and then you're being pummeled and smothered again. It's rumbling laugh leaves my cry for mercy voiceless, and there's nothing anyone can do but watch as your skin rips and blood feeds the starved coral, and I beg for your arrogant life on the slick jagged rocks no one sane would be out on in this weather.

If there are two things I learnt that day, it was that you go by Loonie for a reason and that men aren't meant to be off land.

But you're just a boy longing for discovery and this is the enigmatic ocean.
