Finn:
This would probably have to go on my list of best Christmas Eves ever and it was sad it was nearly over. I helped Piper get down the last flight of stairs. She let out a loud yawn, before clasping her mo uth shut with her hand.
"Sorry." She looked embarrassed. It was pretty adorable.
"Don't worry," I laughed it off. "I am tired too." Her yawn was infectious, making me yawn too and only proving my point. It had been a long night.
We got off the last step and she bounced towards the same chair she had sat on originally.
"Here, take." She handed me the key. "You know you can leave now if you want. James should be here soon."
I took the key but shook my head. "I'll wait." I wanted to savour every last moment of this tonight with her.
"Do you think your family will be awake when you get home?" I asked.
She chuckled. "At least five of my family members will be up until Christmas Eve becomes Christmas day."
I said, "My sister's probably fast asleep. My mum loves to use the"Santa Claus won't come otherwise," excuse."
"That used to terrify me. One Christmas I just could not sleep and I was so certain that I wasn't getting any gifts, so I didn't wake up till midday just to avoid that humiliation."
"Midday?" I could barely breathe. That was such a Piper thing for her to do.
"Yes!" Our laughter soon faded into the silence. That silence was soon interrupted by the honking of a car horn, that was reversing into the parking lot.
Her facial expression dropped. "That's James."
"Well, I guess it's time to go." I offered my hand to help her up.
She stood there. We were both just staring at each other. Her brown eyes into my blue ones. Still, as though the cold from outside had frozen us into ice sculptures. I felt her come closer to my face as she pushed herself up on one leg and kissed me.
PIPER. JUST. KISSED. ME.
My mind went numb. She gave her regular awkward smile.
"Merry Christmas, Finn." My brain just managed to function again.
"M-Merry Christmas Piper." I stuttered. A bit. She pushed open the unlocked door. She hopped to her car, while I walked to mine. As she swung open the car door, she gave one last wave. I waved back.
This was definitely the best Christmas ever.
