It was nine am. It was so quiet in my house almost too quiet. Then I remembered. "Damn!" I yelled out loud. I was late for school again. Mr. Mortson had already lowered my conduct for being late. I slipped on my clothes from yesterday and hoped no one would notice. I grabbed my car keys and sped off.
"Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit." I kept mumbling to myself. Before I knew it I pulled into the school's parking lot. I walked in playing it cool. I put on that fake smile like every day. I ran to the locker and almost made it before the bell rang. I kept on cursing to myself. God, if only my mom was ever home!
Mr. Mortson opened the door and issued me a detention slip. "I expect to see you after school, Hattie" "But Mr. Mortson! I ca-" "No excuses Hattie. Now get in my class and I expect you to work your ass off in my classroom today. You hear?" "Y..yes sir"
I sat down in total embarrassment. My face rosy red. I just wanted to hide. I couldn't help but wonder if Peter made it or if he was skipping again. He was a good student, until our dad went to jail for sexual harassment. Ever since, he hasn't cared about his grades or skipping, only caring about smoking, his girlfriend and skating. And I had to deal with him every night.
"Omg! Hattie! You'll never believe who just asked me out! Jackson! Yea I know we agreed on not dating soccer players but, I could resist his dreamy crystal blue eyes. Ahhh." I didn't have to look to see who she was, it was Ashlyn my best friend since first grade. She didn't know about my family problems, no one did, not even my boy friend. Ugh. Ewan. The best thing a girl could ask for. Sweet, charming, attractive. He was the reason I stopped cutting, and wanting to kill myself. He turned my life around. "Um.. Hattie? I'm right here...? Heelllooo?" "Oh sorry Ashlyn, day dreaming again, sorry!" Just as she was about to say anything else, the bell rang.
I decided to skip out on lunch, it wasn't really my thing anymore, people always coming up to me, wanting to sit at my table, wanting to talk. I was just tired of it. So almost every lunch, Ewan and I go to the fountain at our school and eat there.
"Babe, I miss you so much" he said, and just like that we made out him on top of me, breathing in each others air. "Let's eat." I said as if I was uncomfortable. "You okay babe?" "Fine." Not fine, I thought to myself. All he wanted to do was have sex with me. I knew it. Always pushing me around like a toy. "I gotta go. Can't risk being late." "You're not okay!" he started raising his voice. "I'M FINE!" I yelled at the top of my lungs. I started to run off, but he grabbed me by the sleeve and pulled me back as hard as he could and I fell to the ground. He laid on top of me and mumbled in my ears. "C'mon. It'll be fun. No one can say they had sex at school." He started kissing my neck and pulled of my shirt. Him pinning me down, me being unable to move. "Stop." I said not trying to raise suspicion. "you're gonna regret this. Get off of me, now!" "Baby, no way this'll be fun." "Not for me, I don't wanna have sex with you!" He stopped got up and slapped me as hard as possible, giving me a black eye. I screamed in pain as he ran off with my shirt. "Shit." I said as I laid there in excruciating pain. I had no idea what to do now. I was terrified.
