“Melody.”

Poke.

“Melody.”

Poke.

“Melod-”

“What do you want, Will?” I looked at him exasperated at his actions.

“I have an idea.”

“Yeah, you do? You know I am eager to know about this idea of yours. But there’s this teeny-mini problem.”

“There is?”

“Uh-hum. I just happen to be told by the doctor to stay awake the whole night. And it just so happens that I am really sleepy and there is this weird, obnoxious and cute guy whom I happen to like but right now seems quite irritating!” I gritted through my teeth.

I looked at Will to find him grinning cheekily at me.

“You like me?”

Oh no.

“Hmmm, Melody Cross likes me.  Huh, what a surprise!” Will smirked at me.

My eyes narrowed but Will seemed oblivious to the fact since the very next moment, Will leans from his seat and sits on my bed. His shoulders brush mine and his eyes travel from my eyes to my lips. My mouth goes dry as I stare at him and feel that magnetic pull.

His warm breath brushed my chapped lips when a smile slowly curled on his lips. He leaned across my neck and his shaky breath shivered against my ear. His lips touched the tip of my ear just as my eyes shut on their own accord.

“You stink.”

My eyes flew open, only to find Will laughing at my expense. His shoulders shake with laughter and his eyes glisten with that unprecedented humor.

“I am sorry. I couldn’t help it. Anyways, listen to that plan of mine?”

I looked away determined to take a stand and punish him for that stupid joke.

“Hey Melody? I am sorry, okay. I was kidding.”

“Melody?”

“Melody?”

“Melody?”

“Okay fine. It’s okay. Just shut up now. My head’s aching.”

Will pouted at my outburst but then shook his head and with a gentle tug on my chin, turned me towards him.

“I have the perfect plan to keep you awake tonight. It involves candies, torch, pillows, you and me.”

I stared at him. And I was pretty sure, judged by the weird expression on my face, he would be soon regretting his decision to stay and keep me awake tonight.

While I spaced out, daydreaming about my perfect little bed and then Will’s curious plan, Will shuffled around the room poking here and there. He looked like a crazy detective at work.

“Melody” Will called out. I looked at him. He held a piece of cloth in his hands. It looked like a handkerchief. Before I could ask what was going on, Will blindfolded me.

“Hey! What are you doing Davenport?”

“Nothing to worry about Cross. Just planning your murder. I can’t plan it in front of you, now can I?”

I mentally rolled my eyes and just sat there. Sleep now seemed like quite a good plan. But before I could act on my mission, Will removed the blindfold and frowned at me.

“You were going to fall asleep” he accused.

I sheepishly smiled at him hoping my puppy dog eyes would work.

“No, it’s not working.”

Meanie.

I looked behind him and gasped at the sight in front of me. Pillows stood piled over each other in the shape of a cube. It reminded me of the times when I was young and used to build pillow fortresses. Four torches lay on the floor, each of them switched on, facing towards the ceiling and emitting a bright yellow light.

Will took my hand and pulled me from the bed.

I winced slightly at the sudden movement.

Will’s concerned gaze ran all over me searching for any injury.

“I am okay” I whispered.

Will nodded. Then, grabbing my hand he led me towards the pillows. The ‘pillow fortress’ had enough space to accommodate two giant teddy bears. Will stepped into the cube and gestured me to do the same. I looked at him, still puzzled at his genius plan.

But fan girl-Melody won over genius-Melody and so I stepped inside. Both of us sat down, huddling for space. A comfortable silence surrounded us.

“Umm, Will? What’s this?”

“Indoor camping.”

“Indoor camping?” I asked him slowly.

“Yeah. We have the torch-bonfire and the pillow tent. All that’s missing is marshmallows and music. But, when I am here then there’s nothing to fear.”

I watched as Will pulled out candies from his one pocket and his Ipod from the other.

Within seconds, we had an earplug in both of our ears while we popped candies into our mouth.

“Hey Will?”

“Hmmm.”

“Just so that we are clear, I don’t hate you.”

Will chuckled.

“Melody, I don’t hate you either.”

“Awww, does that mean you like me?”

“Ewww no. You still stink.”

“Will!”
