Twelve years later:
Hans was now twenty years old. Most of his brothers were now married, had kids, and were already in power. Their father had died just the previous summer, but other than that nothing had really changed. Hans was still neglected and made fun of by his brothers. Even his own mother told him that there was no place for him, and that he could never accomplish anything. But then suddenly, Hans found his opportunity.
The Duke of Weselton, a neighboring kingdom, visited the Southern Isles with news of a coronation in Arendelle. Princess Elsa was to be crowned queen, the Duke announced, and still did not have a prince consort. The Duke was hoping to recruit one of the princes to take a chance on the new queen.
"I'll go," Hans announced when the Duke brought up the topic. His brothers snickered and hid smirks behind their water goblets or napkins.
"Why should we let Hans go? He will only bring us disgrace," Magnus said.
"He still has the scars from the window incident; he will never recover from a love life blow with Princess Elsa!" cried Morten. Hans clenched his fists under the table. He would show them. They took everything else away from him, but this time it was his chance.
"I'll prove you all wrong!" he shouted, a bit too forcefully. Everyone at the table stopped to stare at him.
"Did anyone just hear something?" asked John, who was the only brother who kept up the invisible Hans act all those years.
"I said, I'll prove you all wrong. For twenty years I have been imprisoned by you fools, and now it is my chance to finally be free. To finally have a place where I belong. I'm sick of being made fun of, beat up, and ignored. Now it's my turn to take charge. I will be going to Arendelle, I will meet Princess Elsa, and I will charm her to her wit's end." Hans was infuriated.
"Brother, how many times do we have to tell you? You can't do anything. You are useless!" said Finn, who was now twenty-three.
"He doesn't listen either. Like those sideburns? Such a rebellion. The last thing we need is for you to make an even bigger fool out of yourself," the queen grumbled.
"Well I think this is a lovely challenge!" interrupted the Duke, "I've always been rather fond of participating in family bets. I have many siblings myself, as you should know."
"Great," Hans sighed, "I'm glad to hear that finally someone is on my side in life. We shall leave as soon as possible. I look forward to never seeing any of you brothers ever again."
