"Welcome to Archer."

Amelie had absolutely zero intentions to go anywhere or do anything besides dance that morning when she woke up. But with only an hour until her 2 pm class, she unusually decided to go by the area where Cassie Shore was hospitalized. Amelie wasn't sure what had possessed her to go visit her former roommate in the first place, but to help her match the tone of everyone else in the hospital, she stopped by the closest store to pick up the cheapest bouquet of flowers she could find.
They weren't the prettiest flowers. Just a variety of yellow, orange, pink, and red carnations that were thrown in a clear plastic bag so that water wouldn't drip all over the place. And the fact that they were only 4 dollars made them look even more striking to Amelie.
She did the usual thing that every visitor does. Go to the receptionist, tell them your name, your relation to the patient, and ask which room they're in. Once she received the information that she needed, Amelie headed straight to the room Cassie was in.
But as Amelie got closer, she could hear faint sniffles coming from the room that she was instructed to go to. It struck Amelie by surprise to hear another person in the room since no one to her knowledge liked or even cared about Cassie. Assuming it to be Nabil, Amelie threw the door open.
"Really, Nabil? You're obsessed with a girl that cheated on you," Amelie said, tossing the flowers onto a chair that was close to the doorway. To her surprise, a different boy than she expected was standing over Cassie's limp body.
Amelie made instant eye contact with Robert 'Robbie' Shore, Cassie's one year older brother.
Robbie quickly wiped his tears with the jacket sleeve. "What're you doing here?" he asked. Amelie picked the flowers up from the chair and placed them in the vase that sat on the bedside table. She took a deep examine at the cards and bouquets that other friends had brought for Cassie before looking back at Robbie.
"Can't a girl bring good vibes to her roommate that's in a coma?" she asked with a broad grin plastered on her face, "What are you doing here? You hate Cassie more than anyone at Archer."
Robbie slouched down into a seat that was planted next to the hospital bed. "Don't know. It's like my legs just hauled me over here," sighed Robbie, "I know, it sounds pathetic."
"Not at all," she immediately replied with a slight chuckle, "I understand the feeling."
The two continued talking maybe for the next fifteen minutes. There wasn't too much to talk about since they see each other almost every single day in dance class.
But when Robbie finished his last comment, Amelie glanced up at the clock that hung on the wall. "Well, I just wanted to check up on Cassie. See how she was doing," Amelie said, standing up from the seat she didn't even remember sitting down in, "I should probably go now."
Robbie also stood up, "Yeah, me too."
--
Amelie never realized how many people stared at her as she walked back to Archer until Robbie pointed it out. She wasn't surprised since she knew how absurd she looked walking around only in white leggings and a black leotard.
The school was relatively close to the hospital Amelie and Robbie stopped by, a five-minute walk tops so it didn't take them very long to get there.
Everyone gawked over them as they walked in. They both walked to their usual places at the barre, Amelie next to Shane and Robbie towards the front.
Shane looked over at Amelie with a substantial sized grin on his face. Before he could say anything, his attention was snatched away from Amelie to a girl with a blue hoodie and baggy trousers that had just wandered in.
The secondhand embarrassment was through the roof for Amelie, watching the girl hop from place to place, trying to find an unoccupied spot at the barre. Shane being the considerate person he is, waved his hand to get the girl's attention and gestured to the space between him and Amelie.
Grateful, the girl quickly made her way over to where Amelie and Shane were. She took the blue jacket she wore to class and tossed it on the ground.
"You're in the sticks, Darling," Amelie heard Shane say to the new girl.
Mr. Brooks continued the class as usual. Well, until he came over to where Amelie, the new girl, and Shane was. Already knowing what was coming, Amelie cringed.
"We don't wear junk here," he informed.
Confused, Neveah stopped dancing and asked, "Junk?" Mr. Brooks pointed to her trousers.
"Junk," he said again, "You've covered what I need to see."
The girl immediately took her pants off, now knowing what junk meant.
Amelie didn't really pay attention to the critiques that Mr. Brooks gave Neveah acknowledging that it really isn't her business nor did she care enough to do so. Instead, she began to focus on different things. Like the large hamburger that she was looking forward to eating after class.
It stayed like this until she heard her name being called, "Amelie," said Mr. Brooks, "Demonstrate to the side."
She hated when the spotlight was on her during class. Amelie didn't mind everyone admiring her on stage, but in any other cases, she liked to blend in with the crowd. She performed the moves as she was instructed.
"Okay, I'll spare you." Mr. Brooks began to walk off, but continued talking, "Just visiting?" he asked towards Neveah.
"New admission." Neveah answered, sounding fed up with Mr. Brooks' attitude.
"Then show up next class in proper attire with better shoes," Amelie glanced down at the new girl's feet, "Those are a fiasco."
Once he was done talking to Neveah, Mr. Brooks walked back towards the front of the class. As the classical music began to start back up, Amelie leaned into Neveah's ear. "Welcome to Archer," she whispered sarcastically before continuing the class.
