Tommy's nose twitched at the smell of buttermilk and sweet syrup coming from the kitchen. He let out a yawn and rubbed his eyes before looking over to his brother who was still asleep. Not wanting to wake him up, Tommy quietly got out of bed and snuck down the hallway. As he got closer to the kitchen, he could hear that Sable was humming to herself while there was some quiet music playing in the background. He entered the kitchen and saw that Sable was making pancakes. She had her back turned and did not notice Tommy standing behind her until he tugged at her apron.
"Tommy!" Sable gasped being caught completely off guard. Tommy let out a chuckle and smiled, happy that Sable knew he was Tommy and not his brother.
"I'm sorry for startling you Sable," Tommy said rubbing his paws together. Sable smiled and rubbed Tommy's head.
"It's alright Tommy," Sable paused for a moment as she turned to look at the stove. There were two plates next to it stacked with pancakes. "Why don't you go wake your brother so you two can eat," Sable suggested. Tommy's eyes lit up before he quickly scurried out of the kitchen and into his room. He then turned on the lights and shook his brother awake who seemed to be not so pleased by that. But before Timmy could complain, his brother was already out of the room and into the kitchen sitting at the table just as Sable set a plate in front of him. Timmy followed slowly behind him, rubbing his eyes before sitting at the table as well.
Sable chuckled to herself noticing Timmy's tired face and placed a plate in front of him before kissing the Noookling on his forehead. Timmy smiled and seemed to be in a much better mood by that. Sable however didn't eat that morning. She felt too sick, too worried to be eating anything at all. She had even found it difficult to sleep at night with all the thoughts going through her head about Tom. There had still been no news about him or his disappearance, and with every passing hour of him missing, Sable would get more and more worried.
She tried her best to distract herself in any way she could. Since she couldn't sleep, she thought that she could at least be useful and do something nice for the Nooklings. Sable knew that she wasn't the only one worried about Tom after all. Of course, Timmy and Tommy were worried about him too. So Sable wanted to try her best to make the two of them as happy as possible until Nook came back.
"Thank you, Sable!" Tommy said before wiping his face with a napkin, "It was really really good." Timmy didn't say anything. He just nodded at Tommy's statement before he shoved another pancake in his mouth.
Sable smiled at the two of them. Even though she was sure that they weren't related to Tom, they sure did look a lot like him.
"Well, I'm glad you two liked it," Sable stood there quietly for a moment before she spoke again. "Hey, how would you two like to go out today?"Timmy and Tommy both looked at each other and then back at Sable.
"Go out?" The two of them asked in unison.
"Yeah go out, we could go to the beach or just walk around the island for some fresh air," Sable suggested. Timmy smiled at the idea only to then immediately frown.
"We can't," said Timmy, "Who will work at the shop?" Sable placed her paws on her hips and sighed.
"I'm sure the island wouldn't mind if you two took a little break. Everyone needs a break every now and then." As Sable spoke she realized how much she was sounding like her sister. All-day Sable would be at the Able Sisters shop sewing at her desk. And all the time Mable will tell her to stop for a bit and just take a break. Thinking this, Sable couldn't help but feel as though she was being a bit of a hypocrite.
"Okay!" Tommy said.
"I'm down!" Timmy agreed. Sable smiled and gave a curt nod before she grabbed the Nookling's dishes and placed them in the sink.
