EPR Authorization for Plastic Waste Management 2025 - Stay Compliant with PSR Compliance
In 2025, businesses dealing with plastic packaging must comply with India's Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) rules under the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2022. EPR mandates that Producers, Importers, and Brand Owners (PIBOs) take full responsibility for managing plastic waste related to their products. This includes collecting, recycling, and disposing of plastic packaging responsibly.
To operate legally, PIBOs must obtain EPR authorization from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) through its centralized online portal. The process involves registering the business, specifying packaging types and volumes, and committing to year-wise recycling targets. Failure to meet EPR norms can lead to heavy penalties, import bans, or cancellation of business licenses.
EPR rules categorize plastic packaging into four types-rigid, flexible, multilayered, and compostable-and define recycling targets for each. These targets increase annually, with up to 80% compliance required by 2028-29. PIBOs must also submit annual reports to CPCB and use a minimum percentage of recycled plastic content in their packaging from 2024 onwards.
If you're a manufacturer, importer, or brand owner using plastic packaging, now is the time to act. EPR authorization is not just about compliance-it's about sustainability, reputation, and future-proofing your business. PSR Compliance makes the process seamless, reliable, and transparent.
