When a man strides against the cataclysmic storm, looking for sanctity, he does not expect to be greeted quite as Crowfield was:
"Spawn of th'devil, get away from this place; it's already filled with sin and pain!"
A remote castle, where two families had lived for most of their lives, and where visitors were scarce, Hallowkirk made for less of a refuge than Crowfield could have imagined. Love, hate, anger and death brewed inside the halls of the castle, and, to Crowfield, Hallowkirk became much more than just shelter from the hellish weather; it was the place he could call home for quite some time, and refuse to quit the threshold before he had satisfied his welcome.
"I am a man of reason, and I find your request for my name reasonable despite my apparent reproach. Though it is, in itself, a name you will be reproachful of, and I rather think you will be overwhelmed with disbelief when I say it, or, perhaps, you will not give it a second thought. Whatever the case, you should, and will, call me Crowfield."
