In a technocratic dystopian future, worldwide climate disasters lead to bottlenecking of immigration is so severe that world leaders agree to have the borders themselves expanded into their own fully-automated territories. These borders are a no-man's land where people fleeing the dangers of their homelands live while waiting for their visas to be processed, stuck between the walls and confined within the border for generations. Some of the children born in the border never have their births recorded and therefore have no hope of being processed, but it also means they are undetectable by identification technology and can move along the border relatively freely. The reader is one of these people and works as a "Rabbit" serving the people of the border.
