In a world similar to ours, a 16-year-old gay black teenager named Matthew grieves over the death of his mother, Marlyn, as well as dealing with problems with his father, Johnathan, and his brother, Jacob. Matthew also grows fond of a boy he notices at school, Ansel. These feelings develop into love and Matthew must discover what true love is if it exists, and strange abilities affecting everyone and everything around him.
