In my world you have to be one of the Elite. After graduating from 8th grade it is a shitshow. You wait long intense nights filled with fear because you know one day they will come for you. They will get you mark my words on that. One day you will be ripped away from the comforts of your own home and shipped away to the cruise. None of the adults speak of what happens on the cruise. I can tell based off of the haunted look in there eyes it's nothing good. I've heard tall tales of a place full of hopes and dreams. They call this place High school. High school is just that though...a dream. In the real world all we have is the cruise. The cruise where some never return from. In my world it is survival of the fittest. This is my Entry for the Open Novella Contest III. This goes with the writing prompt #53. This is the direction I chose to take it. Hope you all enjoy. John is a short-order cook working his way through college- an insignificant person in the grand scheme of things. Or is he? One day, John wakes up to find himself in a place he doesn't recognize, only to find out that he's thirty years in the past. Every day is a different time-period, but always in the same place. ONC III prompt #30. You make your living copying others' memories and selling them to people who want to remember things they've never done. Synopsis: Dr. Alex has created REMEMBER? a process that enables him to implant others' memories into those who would like to experience something they might never have otherwise. He is proud of how his creation serves to both entertain his clients as well as help them in more important ways. His existence is idyllic if somewhat lonely. So when Annie, the bartender at the Gray Lady Pub, responds to his advances he takes it to mean a relationship is in the offing. What the lovestruck Alex doesn't know is that there is something more to Annie's interest than romance, something that makes Alex wish he had never set foot inside the Gray Lady Pub.

"We regret to inform you that you have been engaged. We wish you the best of luck with your new spouse. Make sure to come for pick up before seven o'clock. " The message was... well, odd but I was happy to get an address and business hours. Because then I could sort the problem out and get my money back. What sort of message was that anyway? Regret?
