Being an orphan is hard, most people know that. It's an even worse life when you get bullied everyday for what you look like and what you can't do.
In a school where sports and physique is everything Cadence Kelly can't catch a break. Cadence can't help that no matter how much she eats, she's still as thin and frail as a stick. She can't help that she can only throw a dodgeball a few measly feet. But she feels like it her fault and would do anything to be forgiven for being a genetic failure.
ANYTHING.
Doing anything might just get her something more than just the acceptance of her peers.

The Balance (Sample Chapters from the Book and a New Appendix to the story)
People in the Land survived the destruction of the last world war only to have their lives disrupted again by a wayward asteroid that broke up to rain down on the planet, just as life had begun to regain a sense of normalcy. This second tragedy also disturbed the power-sharing arrangement between two leading factions that had helped rebuild the Land-the Council, and the Order-in an agreement called The Balance. The Council leadership exploited the chaos to drive the Order and its members into exile, ad they began banning the use of most modern technology, which the Council had long blamed for the war. Phoebe is the last remaining product of the Order's genetic engineering programs that still lives under Council rule. She doesn't understand why she's so different from everyone else, and struggles to survive, hiding what she is. The exiled Order members have realized she's in danger, and their leader sees a potential in her that could help them regain their place in society, and to re-establish The Balance. The Balance is Part 1 of a planned 3-part Story. The Balance was published in 2015 and is available in Hardcover, Paperback, and Kindle EditionsComplete
The Island
"This is The Island, a prison designed for minors like me- too young to be executed, too old to be reformed, and too much of a stain on humanity to let exist. It was 'the answer' to the growing crime rate resulting from a world that was falling apart. The details evade me, but there is one thing I know. The water doesn't seem as scary as it did before." When Jordyn wakes up in the middle of a tropical forest in the mouth of a cat too big to be real, she decides this isn't how she wants to die. The Island has other plans, though. It was designed to kill her, and it will bring out every gun in the arsenal to do so. Her life becomes a game of survival from the mutant and venomous animals, severe temperature changes, and impossible weather scenarios that exist in this government manufactured prison. The twist? She has no idea who she is, where she came from, or why she committed first-degree arson. In this mixture of "The Hunger Games" and "Maze Runner", Jordyn has to unravel the truth before nature kills her- or die not knowing.
