In the kingdom of Assyria, three women will be forced to make difficult decisions.
Hazel is the daughter of her father's second, lesser wife. She does not enjoy the same privileges as her half-sister or brother. That's all about to change when news arrives that the king is hosting a beauty pageant to pick a wife and she is entered in it.
Piper couldn't have expected her husband to leave her widowed and childless less than a year into their marriage. Now, she and her mother-in-law, Hera, are forced to beg to survive.
Annabeth never wanted her boyfriend to join the army. Now that he has, though, she isn't content to stay home like a good girl.
