Against Time

"I can save you."

He muttered softly, "You should have just stayed asleep. For just a few moments longer."

"Please...tell me it's all a lie."

The boy on the other side of the bars smiled. His playful eyes were filled with sadness and sympathy.

"I'll save both of you."

He immediately turned and walked away in quick, long strides. He didn't look back. The emotions that were threatening to fall apart were shoved into a closet, padlocked and chained. He needed to be strong even though he felt like collapsing. Strong, though his eyes longed to release the water behind them.

"...Even if it's a battle against time..."
