Audrey willows grew up in a small conservative village on the far outskirts of Lanai. She has waited all her life for the day of her claiming when she will learn if she possesses the skills of a spell weaver. However, after the death of a prominent figure in their community, she all but forgets her fast approaching thirteenth birthday, when all children are claimed as Magik, or ordinary.
In spite of her sudden disinterest in Magik, Gabriel, the head of the Blackwing -the king's council, who govern Magik- realizes a truth that could cause her death, if not watched very closely.
