Nineteen-year-old Jorlin lives in 14th century Britain, in a country that's in the throes of a civil war. Her childhood friend gets drafted into the war, which drives her into a search for him. However, along the way, she is forced into coming to terms with the fact that the civil war isn't as black-and-white as she once believed and is subsequently faced with the decision of which side is the right one. Jorlin wants her childhood friend to come back home, but along the way she gets deeper and deeper into the surrounding military conflict, the stakes rising from just her friend to her own life and reputation, along with the fate of both sides of the war. As the story progresses, she realizes that her initial objective of saving her friend from the war has escalated into her becoming a pawn in a national-scale game of military strategy.
