U of A junior Larke Madden goes from a too-responsible, full-time working college student to the newest member of the Green River Wildland Fire Crew. The opportunity to run off to fight fires and 'rake in OT' for a few months seemed too good to be true. And at first, that's exactly how it looks when she's alone in small-town Montana, bereft of all she knows and far too reliant on a band of strangers for her most basic needs, especially when the firefighting takes a turn towards something with a touch more mystique. The barely held-together life she'd made for herself wasn't flashy or full of niceties like... a bedframe, a kitchen table, or ...even semi-regular fresh produce, but it was hers, and she knew how to survive all on her own. Never in her wildest dreams would she have imagined that a simple 'yes' to an oddly framed question would lead to a summer chasing fires, running from boys, and testing the limits of her own personal hygiene. Moreover, she didn't expect it to be the beginning of a love story that would transcend the bounds of reality.
