    George Orville doesn't trust the police. In the aftermath of his sister's murder, he's cut ties with his father, formidable FBI agent Peter Orville, to float around Amsterdam. Disillusioned with the family history in criminal justice, he's ready to resign himself to a life of normalcy, until a late night walk turns into someone pulling the trigger, and he finds a body beneath a Rembrandt in an abandoned gallery. Now on the radar of the police chief, Peter's longtime friend, he's forced to work with Sai Malik, the man of his obsession that he thought he'd never meet. 
    
    Sai is unsure where to pick up Peter's Amsterdam case, still haunted by the memories from the worst night of his life. Peter's prodigal son, only known to Sai as a mysterious failure, turns out to be a surprising ally, and with a truce between them, pieces of the case start coming to light, 
    including an unsolved sexual assault case, an artist suicide, and the constant, looming presence of a famous painter who died centuries before. 
    
    Both Sai and George know that probing the justice system any further threatens to expose an underbelly that both of them have been victims of. But as bodies pile up, their choices are limited to doing what it takes to survive.
