Adriana is a healer, working in the Colosseum and attending to injured gladiators. As a gladiator herself-in a past life-she knows how it feels to be persecuted for some else's entertainment. Her dream is for all of the slaves to be freed and for order to be returned to Rome, which now seems to be crumbling into chaos in the wake of Commodus' death.

What happens when her path crosses with that of Marcus Acacius, the infamous member of the Praetorian Guard, and the only man in all of Rome that seems to respect her?

Will Adriana's wishes come true, or will she be pushed around in the game of politics until someone knocks her off the edge?
