The beginning
Cassie gazed across the dining room table. She couldn't help it. She still loved her husband. She lovingly watched as his blonde eyebrows furrowed. His blue eyes were distant, even angry as he attempted to persuade the last of the syrup from the bottle. Cassie loved him so much! She leaned forward and touched his face. In his surprise, his anger was abated and she caught a glimpse of the lovesick young man that had so nervously proposed to her. And though old hurts hung around her heart like a wet blanket, she smiled. Suddenly, Steven's eyes softened.
He leaned toward her this time, returning her smile. He looked sweetly into his wife's eyes. Cassie was thrilled. This was definitely a breakthrough! What was he going to say?
