I have a really ungodly level of nostalgia over the few months directly following OBX SZN one’s release. no college yet. summer weather finally arriving. outside all day. obx cast & promo in it’s absolute prime. no make up and styling my clothes & hair like kie every day without anywhere to be. bob marley on blast. my last bit of adolescence/childhood.
I think people’s reactions to what has become of that show is indicative to the carefreeness we all felt in that summer after obx one. I know I can’t speak for everyone but I think for me, and at least a handful of other people, that is why JJ’s death and watching these cast members begin to sort of go their separate ways is hurting a lot more than it feels like it should. that show was a safe haven to us at one point and offered a lot of light during a really dark period of time with covid still happening globally. and for a lot of us, it was the last summer before we “grew up”, and it was marked by the essence of what that show stood for at the time.
Idk. I’m feeling sappy and I just miss that era. it meant so much to me

@-DREAMINGG i only got into obx end of summer of 2021 but this time of year always makes me feel suuuper nostalgic so i understand your sappy mood. i feel like this show came at such a unique and special time and was catered to/reached a very specific audience to which it offered so much given the circumstances. obx1 had generally meaningful coming of age feelings without the typical coming of age format and i think that's what made it have such an impact on our generation. i agree it's sad to see it butchered like that but i feel like it's also natural since the cast is also moving into more adulthood phases of their lives (& it also has to do with netflix' disease of taking so long for such short seasons!!), growth is an important part of life and i believe strongly into our own agency and imagination to just cling onto the feelings something has given us rather than letting them be washed away by worse things that came after (even though it takes effort and energy lol) + acknowledging the role it might have played in our own growth, 'cause in the end it's not really gone if that makes sense. don't cry because it's over but smile because it happened and all that yadayadayada

I feel like I GROSSLY overuse the word slightly.
