they actually have control points to the part of the city where the burgplatz is. your bags are being controlled bc you can’t bring glass bottles and such with you (almost every year there are death cases bc of thrown glass bottles etc)
            
            but even in school they handed out contracts today that we and our parents need to sign (auch wenn das alles eig schon in der schulordnung steht) so during karneval we wont bring alcohol or drugs with us to school or come drunk to school (yes oft trinkt man an altweiber vor der schule vor). a lot of cases could result in us having regular school that day which sucks for us and for our teachers
            
            as i said karneval versetzt düsseldorf in einen ausnahmezustand. it’s not like everyone likes karneval. it’s noisy and you can only avoid the inner city bc you can’t go for normal shopping without drunk ppl at every corner anyway. but you still profit from it one way or another. we have a long weekend (5 days) and backeries are selling pretty tasty berliners with various fillings
            
            well to be exact it's a birthday party but a 18th birthday party that starts at eight so basically a party. there’ll be a ton of booze involved and D, a friend of mine and me have already a set a time zum vortrinken at my friend’s house that is close to the location dnwkwl-
            
            and yes i'll be working hard to get that kiss. i'm on a mission now

            tbh it’s hard to explain to outsiders but i'll try to give you an insight.
            
            the last couple of years it was uncool to show up in a whole costume (most girls only wore teufelshaarreifen etc) but now that we aged a bit most of us want to put some effort into our costumes this year. in 5th and 6th grade we wore costumes to school (out teachers do that too) bc we have a kinderkarneval in our aula were our orchester plays while classes perform things they have prepared and candies get thrown into the crowd. but it’s only for the little ones so eventually when we got older we stopped wearing costumes at karneval to school. 
            
            in general classes are cancelled after 11:11 when the kinderkarneval ends with a bolognese through school. god it sounds so dumb voicing it out but for me it’s totally normal lmao
             
            schützenfest actually comes close but that is more for the 40+ who go drinking im bierzelt. as a teen myself karneval feels like the event where the youth of my whole city unites. you don’t know them but you feel connected bc it’s your city (let’s pretend like i was not born in köln aka der verbotenen stadt kdkwlw) i think it has a bit of the atmosphere you have after a huge socker game but without the socker game dklwwl-

            i’m trying but there are so many omfg my town is literally known for its psych wards and the people there it, it’s not even funny because you’ll be told as a very young child not to set a foot on the area
            
            now that i’m older i’m doing it, but until i was sixteen i always walked the longer way ( i mean, i still used to look like i was twelve when i was actually sweet sixteen but then i started gaining weight and grew a bit lmao )
            and till today there is this exact same weirdo that is targeting me every time i wear a skirt outside and if it wouldn’t be for the german law i already would’ve punched him that ugly smirk outta his dumb face
