Serenity looked over at him, only to see his gaze on something else. Her eyebrows knit in confusion, but when she saw what he was seeing, everything seemed to slow in time around her. Serenity felt all of her breath get knocked out of her, much like she had been punched in the stomach, and all the noise around her faded into loud ringing until all she could hear was her own God damn heartbeat. At the big Gate, there was a shadow, walking closer and closer to them from the Upside Down. It didn't take long for Serenity to figure out what it was — or rather, who it was. She knew that shadow. The owner of that shadow had haunted her, had tried to kill her, had ruined her fucking life.
"No," she let out, a sob tearing from her throat.
Nightmares.
Nosebleeds.
Headaches.
Grandfather clock.
Tick-tock, tick-tock.
Four chimes.
Bones snapping.
Fear.
Anger.
Hatred.
Vecna.
She clutched onto her chest as if it would make it easier for her to breathe, only to stumble sideways. "No."
