@Venator-TheThird Thank you. High praise indeed. In the beginning, the Nilex people needed to be more than mere colonists to explain their departure from the Citizens. Being empathic just occured as we wrote, spontaneously. But empaths are not a new topic in the sci-fi genre so we knew something more was needed to make the Nilex unique. Somewhere between ch 27 'Not a time for words' and ch 35 'Crumbling walls' the Gift wrote itself into the story.
          (those are two of my favorite chapters, by the way). Needless to say, the Gift caused us a massive amount of re-adjustment to the base plot but it did make Nilex unique. It explained why the Nilex needed to flee the Citizens and opened up a path to see some of the Captain's past from his perspective. A perspective the Reader needed to see to better understand him, just as Ayla did.
          Is there a moment or chapter that made you feel a connection with Gareth or Ayla?

I just finished book 1 of Cainasis and I have to say I love the book, it is so good. I'm definitely going to read book 2. Keep up the awesome work
