"it's okay," he comforted her, smiling out of gratitude that she'd even offer, but he knew it was his turn to try. his turn to sort out what he'd broken. the last time he walked into this sort of situation, he'd been angry. he saw himself as expendable and distant to jon, so he would be okay with being yelled at. now it was different. it couldn't be more different. problem was, when veronica tried to comfort him the second time around, he just nodded. because of course he didn't believe it. he could've reacted differently. so. at least half of this is his fault. "thanks. have a good shift."

( @failedangels ) "I can go with you," she meant it, although she knew it was something that only the two of them could solve up. After all, the relationship was theirs (it didn't mean she couldn't back him up there), and the heartbreak was always present in Jon's eyes. It wasn't anger— or, maybe, it could also be. But not towards Tom, but towards himself, the media, the paparazzi who took those photos— never those around him. Those he cared, those he loved. He was being difficult and pushing everyone away to protect them. And himself. She had seen it already to know almost all of that. "It's not your fault, Thomas... remember that. They took that photo. Not you. Not Jon," she friendly reminded him, before giving a double, encouraging thumbs up. No smile this time. She was too tense for both of them.

he was trapped in the same cycle, and a look of resignation settled over his face. thomas realised he was hiding behind everyone else right now, because even alex had argued with him. he'd probably not take eva approaching too kindly. so, he nodded. "it's— fuck. okay, i'll have to—" it was scary to say. it wasn't like he'd make it much better, they'd had an argument like this before when jon had a little too much to drink. he'd met that side of him before, so perhaps he was best to get thrown in against it— he knew what to do differently now. "okay, um. don't worry about it, i'm sorry. i'll talk to him. this is my fault anyway. thank you."
