The rain soaked through her clothes before she realized she was crying too. Callista leaned against the alley wall, light flickering weakly beneath her skin, trying to breathe past the weight of another goodbye. When someone stepped into the narrow space, she didn’t bother hiding the glow anymore.

⟡ @-Webheads- ⟡ Callista startled at the sound of him landing, the faint light beneath her skin flaring brighter before she could stop it. She lifted her head slowly, rain clinging to her lashes, taking in the red and blue suit with something between disbelief and exhausted amusement. “I—” Her voice caught, and she had to clear her throat before trying again. “I’m fine. Or… I will be.” She pressed her palm harder to the brick behind her as if the wall might hold her together, the glow in her veins pulsing in uneven waves. “You really shouldn’t be here,” Callista added softly, not unkind. “This is the part of the night people usually walk away from.”
