A small neon sign blazed behind you both, casting a purple glow against your skin and hair and reflecting off his round glasses. Despite the glass towers and skyscrapers that surrounded you and accommodated many, no soul was around to fill the nighttime streets with life.
"How?" You demanded, your voice quivering as you narrowed your darkened eyes at him. Up until now, he'd had all the answers. Every time you sought clarification or solace, he had been able to provide it. So what was so different now?
Simon let out a heavy sigh, pushing his glasses up on the bridge of his nose, keeping eye contact. Your lips were pressed together in a thin line, your eyebrows drawn together in anger as he continued to listen to you, unable to respond. If he was able to answer, he would have done so by now, and it was much too late to reason with you.
"How!" Simon's jaw clenched as you raised your voice and more rage built up inside your veins, making your heart throb painfully inside your chest. Disputes weren't uncommon between you both, but it had never gotten this fierce before. The harmless neon purple sign flickered occasionally, giving your eyes an additional dangerous spark to them that almost scared the raven-haired male who made no move to shout back.
After your demand echoed off of the glass towers and into the night, the only sound left was the buzzing of the club's sign as it continued to flicker and burn. Your glare was so sharp he had to tear his gaze away just to remain calm. But you didn't let the silence last too long.
"Simon please," you begged a little more desperate, earing his eye contact once more. The corners of his mouth had pulled down into a frown because hearing you break hurt him. This was breaking his oath and resolution like a twist of rotten silk. "How do you destroy a monster without becoming one?.."
Slowly, Simon shook his head, his soft bangs covering his downcast eyes. He could no longer bear to gaze into your lovely and enraged face.
"You can't."
