The night had been quiet until Damian noticed them. He couldn’t tell what they were doing there. That should have been enough reason to leave them alone. It wasn’t.
Instead, he remained partially concealed in the darkness, watching with growing curiosity. There was something unusual about their presence—something he couldn’t quite put his finger on. Finally, he stepped into view.
“Most people don’t come wandering around here this late” his gaze flicked toward the path behind them, then back “so…” a faint, crooked smile appeared.
“What are you looking for?”
