well here we go on another vent whoops -
asian parents are just, in general, so old-fashioned and shortsighted. we’re not in your country, you need to understand that.
this is a first world country and whether you like it or not, society is worlds apart compared to the ones you grew up in.
your old and horrible customs of abusing children, being racist, treating your children as racehorses in education, or even going as far as arranging marriages, are not accepted in the current culture. and hopefully, they never will be.
you need to get with the program and lighten up on your children. you cling so desperately to america claiming it’s the land of opportunity and freedom, yet you oppress your children and prohibit them from having a life. so much for rights and freedom.
it doesn’t take an intellectual to realize that what you are doing is wrong. you pressure your own offspring so much, and then refuse to accept there is a concept such as ‘mental health’.
your children are not here to make up for your mistakes. they will make mistakes too. that’s life.
yes, we should focus on the bigger picture and study. i’m not saying you should let your children go to clubs or drink. however, this fucked up logic that you should spend your life studying so that you can get money is bullshit.
you want your child to be a doctor? great. that’s not wrong, at least the idea of it isn’t. having said that, hoarding them in your house and making them study is not right.
so what if your life will be set once you become a surgeon? you will have missed your entire childhood in the midst of your parents’s abuse and neglect.
the average age a surgeon starts making money is thirty.
thirty.
time is much more valuable than money, but you just wasted thirty years of your life to get said money.
your childhood? gone.
the memories you wished to look back on? non-existent.
the friends you hoped to cherish? they were never made.
all because your parents pressured you to be something they weren’t.
