The apothecary startled awake, breath ragged and shallow, a sheen of cold sweat clinging to her brow. For a moment she did not know where she was only that her heart pounded as though fleeing something unseen.
          
          Then the darkness settled into familiarity. High ceilings. Heavy curtains. Stone walls that swallowed warmth. The vampire’s mansion. Vast. Silent. Beautiful in its own severe way and utterly devoid of life.
          
          She pressed a hand to her temple, steadying herself before slipping from the bed. The floor was cold beneath her feet as she rose, drawing her robe close around her frame.Sleep would not return easily. Perhaps a walk would quiet her thoughts.

            " . . i am here , dear . . don't be startled . . come , towards the fireplace . . " she was out of sight , except for the tapping of her cane and a fleeting shadow as she settled into her favorite spot , a red , velvet fainting couch .

            Sylvia froze as the soft tap of a cane echoed in the moonlight. “R-Rosemary?” she whispered, taking a cautious step back. Sylvia swallowed hard, trying to steady her breath as the shadows seemed to press closer around her.

            it was cold and dark in the mansion , save for the fireplaces lit in the main living room and the bedroom the apothecary had been allowed to stay in . rosemary did not need warmth like a mortal would , but it was still a welcomed comfort to have available when she wanted it , and on nights like this , she could be found curled up by the fireplace , reading by fire light .
