after being marooned when his captain's ship was taken over by another crew of pirates , shuichi really thought he was going to die alone on some deserted island in the middle of nowhere . he sighed as he looked up to the starry sky . he was tired and thirsty , as seawater wasn't drinkable and he had nothing to help that . nearly starved , he let out a sigh , then noticed the outline of a ship in the distance . he smiled a bit and tried to get someone to notice , using his only pieces of dry drift wood to start a small fire , fueling it with seaweed and anything else he could find .

the boy didn't really believe him , but decided to go along with this anyways , having no energy to argue with him , " i'm shuichi saihara ... former first mate of of captain kaede akamastu . " the blue - haired marooner answered , he then turned his head confusedly , trying to figure out who or what just moved .

" he asked , tilting his head to the side in a rather curious manner . behind him , a short girl with wavy blonde hair popped up to look over the side as well .

" his tired eyes gave him a confused look .
