i literally hate people who try to police what 'real' emo is. Like I'll tell someone who's calling someone like Melanie Martinez or POPPY emo because objectively they're pop which I feel like is widely agreed upon but people who constantly are like 'I ONLY LISTEN TO REAL EMO >:[' and then bring up the most obscure ass bands from like the 80s that no one cares about- like wow good for you you listen to 80s emo bands great im glad you have music you like but you dont need to be bitchy and try and police a whole ass subculture literally no one asked you

@gl00msp1d3r i can totally respect when people dont like/dont consider whatever band emo bc most emo bands have different styles and i dont think anyone should go after them for that but if they start going after fans of THAT band and saying they arent emo and all that shit thats when i get annoyed

@-puppypaws- no I’d say it’s still pretty unpopular when it comes to the current emo scene. Literally no emo person I’ve talked to has heard of rites of spring and they were like… the first emo band ever lmao.
Idk I’m tired. I feel like we’re just seeing different people. When it’s not the real emo copypasta, it’s someone saying “i don’t really consider ___ an emo band” and everyone jumping at their neck because they’re gatekeeping

@gl00msp1d3r Yeah if someones going to say 'oh well emo actually started in the 80s' and educate people thats totally rad and im all for that but people who make some big show about how theyre better than people and 'ugh no ones REAL emo anymore!!!' fucking suck. Im yet to encounter anyone trying to educate people on the origins of emo who arent pricks about it. I personally knew about 80s emo way before i discovered 2000s emo because it really isnt as unpopular as you think, like a lot of resources i used to educate myself on what emo was, which ofc not everyone does, talked about and recommended classic emo bands, which is rad. I dont think anyone who listens only to 80s emo/mostly to 80s emo needs to be so bitchy about it because honestly 9 times out of 10 theyre the ones going out of their way to start drama with people for trying to become part of the subculture instead of trying to educate them.
