I’M DONE STAYING QUIET.
If you can watch families living in fear, people being detained during immigration enforcement, and think that’s completely okay, then this page probably isn’t for you.
I believe every person deserves dignity, compassion, and due process. No one should be treated as less than human because of where they were born or because they’re trying to build a safer life.
I’ve stayed quiet for a long time because every time I tried to talk about this, I ended up crying. And when that happens, people focus on the tears instead of the message. So this is my message.
I’m Sri Lankan. I live in Australia. This may not be happening in my country, but that doesn’t mean I stop caring. Empathy shouldn’t have borders. You don’t have to share someone’s nationality to believe they deserve humanity.
I’m tired of hearing people say, “It isn’t my problem.” Maybe it isn’t directly affecting you today, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t affecting someone else. Looking away doesn’t make suffering disappear.
This isn’t about politics for me. It’s about people.
Families deserve to stay together whenever possible. Children deserve to feel safe. Every person deserves to be treated with dignity, no matter where they come from.
You don’t have to agree with every immigration policy to believe that compassion matters. I know where I stand, and I’m not afraid to say it anymore.
If that makes you uncomfortable, you’re free to unfollow.
