The thinking of the older generation can sometimes feel difficult to understand. Yes, there are many wise people among them who teach us very valuable lessons, but sometimes their words can show something different.
According to some older people, if someone reacts to an insult, jab, or taunt, they think that person isn't strong enough because they themselves have faced a lot in their lives. I agree that life may have been very difficult for them, and they may have faced many awful things because of society. But sometimes, the way they understand emotions can make them seem harsh towards others.
A person doesn't become weak just because they show their emotions when they are hurt, whether it is because of something hurtful they heard or even physical pain. Some older people keep saying things like, “We went through much worse than this, and you can't handle such a small thing?”
Older people expect us to behave like machines. For them, everything may seem minor. Yes, they may show some care during the situation, but later, they may turn the same situation into taunts.
Everyone has a different way of dealing with their struggles and emotions. It is completely up to a person how they choose to handle things, even after going through everything they have faced.
Some people from the older generation have developed the belief that younger people don't have many problems in their lives and are simply throwing tantrums or being dramatic.
I'm not trying to defend or offend any generation or put everyone into the same category. I'm simply explaining a situation that can be seen in society. This is common in many households. Yes, people can be supportive at times, but sometimes their own traumas and hardships can get triggered and make them behave this way.
And thankfully, the current generation is learning more about mental health and is becoming more ready to understand others, even when their own lives are full of struggles.
