Another chapter down, two more to go until season 3 of The Hippies is finally complete!
          	QOTW:
Do you believe artists are born or made?

@localblacklady strongly agree when it comes to the wealthy having the opportunity to explore creativity, especially if their parents are artists. So many nepo babies. I find it very interesting that it has been a debate since the dawn of time if artists (even those who remained poor their entire lives) have "something special" or if anyone can become an artist if they put their minds to it. Kerouac wrote an article on it and I mostly agree with his ideas.

QOTW:
Do you prefer happy, sad, or bittersweet endings?

-starsailor

@sistergypsy Funny, I prefer bittersweet and sad. But I do have a sweet spot for a happy ending if it's truly deserved

sistergypsy

Happy definitely. I actively avoid sad endings but if I’m feeling a bit crazy I’ll go for bittersweet. What about you?

QOTD:
          Do you collect physical media?

GunshotGlitter

@-starsailor yesss! Real clothing pieces from the 60s & 70s must be so dreamy and Sefronia, I adore Tim Buckley! And to imagine he touched it isn't creepy at all, that's so beautiful, I hope he did! ❤️

@GunshotGlitter it’s such a different kind of joy to physically hold something you love! that sounds like a daydream ♡. strongly agree we’re losing so much with digital media. censorship can easily slip its way in, and “owning” something digitally isn’t a guarantee you’ll always have access to it. I collect records, books, movies and a few clothing pieces from the 60s & 70s! but I hold my copy of Tim Buckley’s Sefronia record close to my heart, it’s a promo version and I like to imagine he touched it himself (that sounds creepy, my god)

@-nighthawkss I cannot shout my agreement loud enough! seeing physical media become a niche is odd to me, it used to be a part of everyday life. your record collection sounds so lovely. I have records but most are new, same with my books. But I enjoy collecting films, especially the obscure ones and ones that I wouldn’t doubt the govt. wanting to censor in the future (:

          What's your favorite trope?

-nighthawkss

@-starsailor yesss love that as well!!
Reply

-starsailor

@-nighthawkss love those, especially a character haunting the narrative (Laura Palmer tease). I’m a sucker for small towns with intricate plots that weave into one another

i’m not sure if it’s a trope but i looove when there’s a character that haunts the narrative. also found family will always have my heart. what’s yours?

Hi! I've got an author + series recommendation I think you'll like!

Ken Follett's historical fiction Century Trilogy follows five interrelated families of American, British, Welsh, Russian, and German nationality through major world events, including World Wars I and II, the Russian Revolution, the rise of Communism, and the women's suffrage and civil rights movements.

The way he blends his original characters with real-life figures, balances their personal and professional conflicts, and seamlessly switches between families and locations is truly awe-inspiring and addictive.

-starsailor

@ChikaraChick Sounds very interesting, thanks for the recommendation! I'll definitely let you know when I get around to picking the first book up (:

David Lynch’s death is such a huge loss. Prayers to his family and friends, and to all of the creatives who saw him as a figure that true art can still exist in the modern world. His themes of the twisted and uncanny in suburbia America, yet while showing that there’s still a glittering string of hope, light, and love in this world. His soul and his creative work will live on for eternity. In a way, he’s still here.
Rest in Peace to such a force. ♡

hi hi. I’m still writing. sigh… slowly, slowly. I think I’ll need to do 7 season for The Hippies instead of the planned 6.

To everyone who celebrates, have a safe and happy holiday season!

QOTD:
Do you pair certain music with the seasons? Who’s your go-to fall musician?

rocknragged

it's not a musician, but more of a song, so it's "Poison Tree" by Grouper for me.
